Training & Player Development

Training is integral to supporting both individual and team development.  It is an expectation that players will attend training.  If a player is unable to attend they must notify the coach in advance.

All teams train in the Huntingtower School Gymnasiums, 77 Waimarie Drive, Mt. Waverley. Training times vary and can change from season to season. Training times are dependent on coach and gym availability.

Where training at the Huntingtower School – Junior Gym – it is important to note that the “back gate” (closest to the Junior gym) is locked at 5:15pm.  Therefore parents picking up children after this time will need to access the school via the Senior school parking area and walk around to the Junior gym.

Individual development

HT Heat encourages players to work on the development of their basketball skills outside of their team’s scheduled training. A dedicated player will train every day, with a focus on improving a range of skills such as dribbling with their eyes up using both hands, giving accurate passes to stationary and moving targets, and practicing their free-throws using proper shooting technique. They will also make an effort to learn from elite teams and individual players through observation (e.g. attend an NBL or WNBL game, watch a representative level basketball game or an A-grade domestic game or even visit basketball websites).

To assist in this, Basketball Victoria provides the Strength & Conditioning Corner on their website.
